REVIEW #77: Witkap Pater Stimulo (Brouwerij Slaghmuylder)

Pours a hazy pale orange with pure white head and plenty of lacing. Fruity honey, lemon and apricot aroma. The fruit is present upon tasting; peach, apricot and sweetcorn. Its not a particularly sweet beer though. Medium-dry finish with a touch of tartness. The candy sugar is more subdued in this than many other similar Belgian pales. Medium bodied but well carbed to keep it breezy and refreshing. A flavourful summer beer.

The wonderfully named Brouwerij Slaghmuylder happen to produce the even more wonderfully named 'Slag Lagerbier'. Apparently the 'muylder' bit means miller but I can only wonder about the first part... Anyway the brewery was founded in 1860 by Emmanuel Slaghmuylder and it is still a family run affair today. They began brewing their (now signature) Witkap-Pater series on the request of a then struggling, now defunct Belgian brewery called De Drie Linden ("The Three Limes") in 1979. Witkap-Pater Stimulo is synonymous with Witkap-Pater Abbey Singel Ale.
